What is Halotherapy?

The word Halotherapy is made up of two parts. The first is halo, the Greek prefix meaning Salt. The second portion of the word is therapy, which denotes a treatment intended to relieve or heal an impairment, injury, disease or disorder. Together they describe the treatment of certain symptoms and conditions with Salt. In our case, Halotherapy and Salt Therapy are interchangeable terms for the natural, holistic and non-invasive treatment of entering into a controlled climate of microscopic salt particles. This treatment can help relieve symptoms related to skin and respiratory conditions, as well as aiding in the management of stress, anxiety, and fatigue.

While our clients are relaxing in a Salt Therapy Room, a Halogenerator grinds up pharmaceutical grade salt into microscopic particles and then disperses the particles into the room. With every breath these tiny flecks of salt enter the lungs, providing relief for many common respiratory symptoms and boosting the overall health of your lungs and respiratory organs. These tiny particles also land on the skin of salt room visitors and are so tiny they can even enter into your pores, where they can work as a natural cleanser and help repair damaged or ailed skin!

How does Salt Therapy provide these respiratory and skin benefits? Salt Therapy utilizes the anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties of salt to act as a natural antihistamine that provides lasting and significant relief from a variety of health issues including allergies, asthma, bronchitis, eczema, and psoriasis. When dry salt is inhaled into the lungs, the walls and airways are coated with salt particles which reduce inflammation and loosen congestion. Additionally, this treatment opens the airways to increase oxygen intake. When inhaled through the nose, salt coats the inner lining of the sinuses and can help relieve nasal congestion and sinus pressure. Exposing skin to dry salt can help balance the skin’s PH levels and stimulate healthy skin renewal to relieve red, irritated, dry, and flaky skin. Salt Therapy can also help kill bacteria in the skin’s pores that lead to infections, acne, and rashes.

While these physical benefits of Salt Therapy are easy to see, the effects on mental health are just as important! Salt is naturally enriched with negative ions and has the ability to remove up to 99.97% of all the airborne particles that cause negative effects on your health. Once negative ions reach the bloodstream they are believed to produce biochemical reactions that increase the levels of the mood boosting chemical serotonin, which can alleviate depression, relieve stress, and boost our daytime energy. The results of Salt Therapy including improved body function, increased oxygen and blood flow, and less stress on the bodily systems can also help improve your mood, boost relaxation, relieve mental stress, and improve sleep.

At Salt Earth we have two incredible Salt Therapy Experiences. If you are an adult, step out of reality as you breach the 19th century hand carved Spanish door in our Adult Salt Therapy Room. Walk across a Pink Himilayan salt covered floor illuminated by soft himilayan salt lamps. Lean back into a zero gravity chair as the soft spa music and sound of ocean waves drowns out the world you left behind. Let the salty air cleanse your lungs and skin until you emerge refreshed and at peace. Children have their own Children’s Salt Therapy Room! A large LEGO base with a desert image invites children to explore the salted desert floor. As they play, they will be unaware that they are receiving a beneficial dry salt treatment. Parents also will experience the benefits of the dry salt as they watch their children play.
