Frequently Asked Questions
What is Salt Therapy?
Salt Therapy is a natural, holistic, and non-invasive therapy that can help relieve symptoms related to skin and respiratory conditions. Salt Therapy utilizes the anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties of salt to act as a natural antihistamine that provides lasting and significant relief for a variety of health issues. Some of the afflictions salt therapy can help with are asthma, allergies, bronchitis, COPD, covid recovery, flu recovery, RSV recovery and relief from skin conditions such as acne, eczema, and psoriasis. Additional benefits can include stress relief, anxiety relief, improved sleep and immune support.
What can I expect from a Salt Therapy Session?
While our clients are relaxing in a salt room, a Halogenerator machine grinds pharmaceutical-grade salt into microscopic particles and then disperses the particles into the room. With every breath, these tiny flecks of salt enter the lungs and land on the skin of salt room visitors, providing relief from many common respiratory and skin ailments such as asthma, allergies, bronchitis, acne, eczema, and psoriasis.
What should I wear?
We recommend wearing comfortable clothing or athleisure wear. If possible, a breathable fabric like cotton will allow for better skin benefits from the salt therapy. For those who are treating skin issues like eczema, having a change of clothes like shorts and a tank top will allow maximum skin exposure. Shoes are removed before your session to keep our Pink Himalayan Salt Floors Clean. Socks are optional as people prefer to keep their feet covered while walking across the salt while others love the way the salt feels on their bare feet.
Will it be hot or cold?
Our Salt Rooms are kept at around 68 degrees with very little humidity to keep the salt from melting and recrystallizing. Many of our clients find this temperature comfortable, but we provide blankets in case you get chilly.
What do I do in the salt room?
Most of our clients lay back in our relaxing zero gravity chairs, listening to our spa sounds and calming music while breathing deeply. Many of our clients fall asleep and awake completely refreshed after their session. The Salt room is usually a quiet zone and kept in low light, but if you are alone in the room we can leave the lights bright to allow for reading and journaling. Some of our guests would rather experience the salt fully as they sit on the pink Himalayan salt covered floor and play, stretch, do yoga or just lay in it and breathe deeply.
Children are welcome and they tend to love playing in the salt so much that they beg to stay longer and come back soon. We do try to advise adults when a child is scheduled for a salt treatment so that there is an opportunity to choose another time if the adult client is looking to have a quieter session.
We also offer a full room rental that accommodates up to 10 guests if all are sitting in the zero gravity chairs and up to 15 guest if sitting on the floor. This option allows our clients to ensure they are the only people in the room for their salt therapy session.
How many sessions do I need?
When treating skin, sinus, and respiratory issues, most Salt Rooms recommend an initial 3-5 sessions in a short amount of time to maximize the salt room’s effects. For those using salt therapy to boost their health or to maintain salt room effects, 1 or 2 sessions a week typically helps to maintain a state of wellness. It’s individual, and based on your intended results from Salt Therapy, but most clients recognize when they need to return.
What kind of Salt Rooms do you have?
We have two different rooms, a large salt room that can accommodate up to 15 people and a smaller salt room where you can experience a reflexology treatment while inhaling the dry salt or a private and more concentrated salt therapy session. In the large Salt Room, you will enter through a 19th century hand-carved Spanish door and walk across a salt covered floor illuminated by soft lights. A zero-gravity chair will hold you in weightless space as the soft music and sound of your own breath drown out the world, left behind. Our Halogenerator will provide cleansing for your lungs and skin until you emerge refreshed and more peaceful. In our smaller Salt Room, a large Lego base with a Sonoran desert image invites you to escape the responsibilities of your day. This room is equipped with a large comfortable leather reclining chair. Guests using this room without an accompanying reflexology treatment have freedom to bring a computer to catch up on their tasks while nurturing their body or bring a book to read by the natural light of the window as they are the only person in the room.
Can I add on Salt Therapy to a massage?
At Salt Earth we offer salt therapy sessions ( sitting in the salt room) for 45 minutes. This can be combined with a reflexology session ( a unique method of using the thumbs and index fingers on the reflex points on the feet and hands to relieve tension and stress, plus alleviate many additional ailments. Reflexology also improves blood supply and promotes the unblocking of nerve impulses.) Currently, massages can not be combined with the salt room on a daily basis. Unfortunately, we can not move the massage tables into and out of the room quickly enough to accommodate our busy schedule, however many of our clients will schedule a salt session before or after their massage! We also have monthly Salted Couple’s Massage Experience announced though our text and email subscriptions. Keep your eyes out for special occasions in which we will offer single appointments in the Salt Therapy Room!
